I’m used to seeing scribbles of sidewalk chalk on my walk to and from my apartment, where I’ve lived since the begining of residency. They started off as tiny little sketches of butterflies or the sun, and have grown quite large. Hopscotch boxes, names, the standard children’s stuff.

Then today I noticed some writing. Someone has written down the serenity prayer (I had to wiki it to find out it had a name):

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.

It’s a good prayer, and sounded really familiar. Then I realized it was the one they recite at Alcohlics Anonymous meetings. Man, these kids are getting all philosophical. OR they’re going to AA meetings. Or reformed bums are playing with sidewalk chalk now. All these changes in just three years.
