Nightfloat has been fun with Kelly. I felt sick one night and she took four admits while I did one. It was much appreciated. And we’ve been a good team. We ended the week with a little potluck dinner. She brought porkchops, the diligent and fun-hearted intern Amanda brought roasted vegetables and a half dozen of SARA SARA CUPCAKES and I brought something with cauliflowers in it (kind of anti-climatic after mentioning the cupcakes). We ate and tried all the different cupcakes and we had only complicated but interesting kids that night, just enough for us to handle but hard enough that we didn’t sleep at all that night.

As I walked through the hospital floors as an almost third year, I realized that I’ve practically lived here for these past two years, and it has seen me through some of the proudest and humblest moments of my life. We know each other, as familiar as an old  married couple named Fred and Winnifred. It’s a weird metaphor, but it’s true.
